Cheryl McKee Bretsnyder has enjoyed a flute journey that spans several decades; she has primarily focused on teaching which was her initial passion beginning from the age of 12. Cheryl credits her first teacher and mentor, Donna Clarke of Palos Verdes Peninsula, CA, with instilling a love for the flute and teaching. She received B.M. and M.M. degrees from Indiana University.
Her students have experienced many and various achievements from local competition winners to top music school acceptances. In addition to teaching, Cheryl judges, evaluates, teaches Masterclasses, and occasionally hosts out of town flutists.
She has served on the Board of the San Diego Flute Guild in various capacities for many years, including most recently as President. A personal dream and accomplishment that became a reality was the highly successful summer flute camp, from conception to realization, hosted by the SDFG. She has helped to head up many SDFG events such as the Duet and Ensemble Festival and the annual Spring Festival. She is grateful to be a part of such an active flute community in the San Diego area.
In addition to the flute, she enjoys the Eastern High Sierras, road trips, sports, and rocking out at country music concerts with her wonderful family.
